Louisiana folk artist Clementine Hunter (1887-1988) documents life on historic Melrose plantation on this colorful ceramic round platter. In this artist rendition, Hunter captures the structures on Melrose including the Big House, the African House and the Yucca House. Scenes of cotton picking and washday chores all set among pecan trees along the historic Cane River. Hunter's art is celebrated for her visual history of singular events of American plantation life in the early 1900's. Each ceramic is hand-painted and no two are exactly alike. The bowl measures 15 inches round by two inches deep.
