Clementine Hunter Pecan Threshing Mug $40.00
Nationally acclaimed Louisiana artist Clementine Hunter (1887-1988) rose from cotton-picker on central Louisiana's famous Melrose Plantation to famed folk art painter of Southern plantation life. Her work can be found in the Smithsonian Institute, the Museum of American Folk art in New York, the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Dallas Museum of Fine Arts and the Oprah Winfrey Collection in Chicago among other esteemed locations. Threshing Pecans was one of her most endearing paintings created during her lifetime that spanned just over 100 years. Gathering pecans during the fall was a community affair on Melrose and would require everyone to pitch in to harvest the prized nuts. It was not unusual to have children climb the branches of the tress or have workers loosen the nuts with long poles before picking them off the ground by the fistful. Hunter's interpretation of the annual pecan harvest on Melrose is captured in her painting called Threshing Pecans. The ceramic mug is four inches tall, holds 10 ounces of hot or cold liquid and features a large handle that is easy to hold. The Threshing Pecan design continues all around the outside of the mug. Dishwasher and microwave safe.
